Westlaw UK is a comprehensive legal database providing access to UK case law, legislation, legal journals, and commentary. To ensure proper authentication and access both on and off campus, you must always access Westlaw through the library's website links rather than going directly to the Westlaw homepage.

Access Instructions

Starting from the University Homepage:

  1. Navigate to the Liverpool Hope University homepage

  2. Click either 'Staff' or 'Student' in the top-right corner of the page

  3. Scroll down and select 'Libraries' from the available options

  4. Choose the 'Finding Resources' tile to access the library's database collection

Locating Westlaw:

On the Finding Resources page, you will see several navigation options for accessing library databases, including:

  • Databases by Subject

  • Databases A-to-Z list

Since you know the specific database you need, the quickest route is to use the Databases A-to-Z list. Select the letter 'W' to view all databases beginning with that letter, then click 'Westlaw' from the alphabetical listing.

Access Issues

The library is aware that some Westlaw UK accounts may be deactivated after 6 months of inactivity. If this happens, you will see an error message similar to this:

"Your profile contains no valid registration keys. Contact your administrator for assistance or sign in to OnePass to manage your profile".

If you have previously had an account on Westlaw and are now seeing a message like this when you try to log in, please contact me and I will ask our supplier to reactivate your account.
