How can I obtain accessible copies of core texts?

If you require accessible formats of core reading materials due to a disability or specific learning difference, Liverpool Hope University provides several support pathways, including Learning Support Plans, the RNIB Bookshare Scheme, and librarian support with using accessibility features in the library's e-book collections. Accessibility software is also available in library study spaces.
Learning Support Plans
Learning Support can arrange support for disabled students, including those with dyslexia, sensory impairments, or other access needs, through Learning Support Plans.
You can contact Learning Support to discuss your specific requirements. They will then be able to arrange alternative format materials including:
- Large print
- Audio
- Digital text files compatible with screen readers
- Braille (where available)

RNIB Bookshare
The RNIB Bookshare Scheme provides a collection of accessible books for students with print disabilities. If you're registered with Learning Support, they can facilitate access to this service.

‘Plan in Advance’
To ensure timely provision of accessible materials, make sure you plan in advance.
- Contact Learning Support as soon as you receive your module reading lists.
- Allow 2-3 weeks for format conversion where standard alternatives aren't immediately available.
- Speak to your module tutor if you need additional support identifying core texts.

Librarian Support
Librarians can help source accessible versions of core texts that are already available. You can search for accessible copies in OneSearch. For example, existing e-book versions often support text-to-speech and adjustable font sizes.
Accessible Study Suites
The university provides two Accessible Study Suites, one on each campus. These contains PCs loaded with accessibility tools and software.
- At Hope Park, the Accessible Study Suite sits in the Sheppard Worlock Library and is located on the ground floor near Special Collections. You will need your ID card to enter this space.
- The Accessible Study Suite at Creative Campus is located in room CAP210 of the Capstone Building.
Entry to the suites is through a power-assist door, and they are equipped with height-adjustable desks and PCs containing accessibility software, including JAWS, Inspirations, Read & Write, ZoomText, Dragon, and Kurzweil. There is also CCTV available to enlarge text.
Students with a Learning Support Plan can book these specialist spaces up to one week in advance by emailing learningsupport@hope.ac.uk.
Private Study Rooms
Accessibility software is also available in some of the library's private study rooms.
- Private Study Room 004 on the ground floor of the Sheppard Worlock Library is contains a PC with JAWS, Inspirations, Read & Write, ZoomText, Dragon, and Kurzweil. There is a large screen monitor, scanner, and CCTV available in this room. This room can be booked at the Library Help Point.
- Private Study Room 105 on the first floor of the Sheppard Worlock Library is contains a PC with with Inspirations, ZoomText, Dragon, Read & Write, and Kurzweil. This room can also be booked at the Library Help Point. The library lift can be used to reach the first floor.
- Private Study Spaces 005 and 006 on the ground floor of the library contain PCs with Inspirations, Kurzweil and Read & Write. These rooms are available on the online booking system.
