Answer
How can I save my search and sources in OneSearch?
OneSearch offers several convenient ways to save your searches and sources for future reference. By saving items and searches, you can easily return to useful resources, stay updated on new publications in your research area, and organise your academic materials efficiently. This guide will walk you through the different saving options available.
Saving Individual Items to 'My Favourites'
You can save individual books, articles, or other resources to your favourites list for easy access later.
Steps to save an item:
-
After running a search, find an item you want to save from the results page
-
Click the pin symbol on the right-hand side of the item
-
To view your saved items, make sure you are signed in and click the pin symbol at the top of the page
-
You'll arrive at the 'My Favourites' page where you can see all your saved items
Important: You must be signed in to your OneSearch account to save items permanently. If you're not signed in, any favourites you pin will be erased at the end of your OneSearch session.
Saving Multiple Items at Once
If you want to save several items from your search results simultaneously, you can select multiple items using the checkbox feature. This is particularly useful when you've found a group of relevant sources and want to save them all together.
Organising Your Saved Items with Labels
Once you've saved items to your favourites, you can organise them using labels (similar to virtual folders). This helps you categorise resources by topic, assignment, or any other system that works for you. Use the pencil icon to edit labels on individual records or select multiple records to apply labels to a group.
Saving Your Searches
Saving your searches is particularly useful if you want to re-run the same search later or receive notifications when new matching resources become available.
Steps to save a search:
-
Enter your search terms and click the search button
-
Once you have your results, click "Save query" at the top of the results page
-
Enter your email address and click "SAVE QUERY"
-
To view your saved searches, click the pin symbol at the top of the page
-
View and edit your saved searches on the "SAVED SEARCHES" tab
Setting Up Search Alerts
Search alerts are an excellent way to stay updated on your research topics without having to manually search repeatedly. When you save a search, you can turn on notifications to receive email alerts whenever new items matching your search criteria are published.
How to enable search alerts:
-
After saving your search, click "Turn on notification for this query"
-
When new items are published that match your saved search criteria, you will receive an email with the details
Accessing Your Saved Content
All your saved items and searches are stored in your OneSearch account and can be accessed from any device when you sign in. Your 'My Favourites' account contains three main sections:
-
Saved Records: Individual items you've pinned from your search results
-
Saved Searches: Search strategies you've saved to re-run later
-
Search History: A record of searches from your current session (automatically saved when signed in)
Additional Ways to Save and Share
Email yourself a link: If you want to quickly save a single item, you can email yourself a direct link to it. Go into the item record and click "EMAIL", then enter your email address and click "SEND". You'll receive the link in your inbox, allowing you to access the item from any device.
View on your smartphone: OneSearch also allows you to generate a QR code for any item, which you can scan with your smartphone to view the record on your mobile device.
Remember to Sign In!
